On Saturday (19), CESA, the group that runs the show at Chiba's Makuhari Messe, confirmed that the fifth and closing day, Monday the 21st, is cancelled outright. Blame goes to Typhoon No. 25, already named Dujuan, which is expected to hit the region right in the middle of that Monday afternoon.
The reasoning is pretty blunt: wind and rain are forecast to pick up through the afternoon, which would put local public transit at risk and could leave attendees, exhibitors, and staff stranded instead of heading home safely. Rather than gamble on that kind of logistical mess mid-show, organizers just cut the whole day.
Sunday (20) is still happening on schedule, though CESA warns some activities or facilities might get adjusted or paused depending on how the weather actually plays out that day. Anyone holding a Monday ticket gets a full refund through whichever vendor sold it; Sunday tickets aren't affected since that day remains on.
To soften the blow, the organizers are working on streaming some of Monday's cancelled stage programming online, though that plan still hinges on confirming the venue stays safe enough to run it. Which panels make the cut, and when, is supposed to land on the show's official channels in the coming days.
The timing stings a little. This TGS was meant to mark the show's 30th anniversary with its first ever five-day run, built around a theme that boiled down to five straight days of nonstop play. Getting shortened by weather is almost an ironic gut punch to that whole pitch.
In practice, the people who'll feel this most are smaller exhibitors and journalists who booked a last-minute trip specifically for that closing day, betting on panels and reveals that might now only exist on video, if that.
