Attack on Titan 3 shows extended demo at TGS 2026, details new protagonist

Koei Tecmo gave the game its own dedicated TGS 2026 stage, bringing original voice cast members on stage and showing off a much longer demo than anything shown before.

Koei Tecmo used the fourth day of Tokyo Game Show 2026, this Sunday, to give Attack on Titan 3 its own dedicated stage, and the company didn't hold back: voice actresses Yu Kobayashi and Shiori Mikami, who play Sasha and Krista in the anime, joined live to walk through a gameplay demo noticeably longer than anything shown in trailers so far.

The footage backs up what was already known since the official release date announcement back in August: this time around, you're not playing as Eren, Mikasa, or any familiar face from the original story. The protagonist is a veteran soldier created by the player, a scout who has already seen plenty of battle and whose choices will weigh on humanity's fate, even as classic characters remain around to interact with at base between missions.

The part that stood out most in the demo was the completely reworked ODM gear system. According to Koei Tecmo, flight is now faster and more responsive, and titan behavior was tuned to be more unpredictable, which in practice means less memorizable enemy patterns and more improvisation during aerial combat.

It's a design choice that makes sense in practice: after two games sticking to the anime's script almost to the letter, building an original character gives Omega Force room to invent new situations without betraying the lore, like exploring areas beyond the walls and setting up supply bases, things the classic trilogy never really let players do.

The launch is confirmed for December 10 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, with an animated opening handled by MAPPA, the same studio behind the anime adaptation. There's a standard edition, a SteelBook version with reversible art, and a Digital Deluxe edition with 72 hours of early access.

For longtime fans, the timing of this TGS demo is clearly calculated to keep the hype warm until December, but what actually separates this Attack on Titan 3 from the previous entries is that customizable protagonist. If Omega Force gets the balance right between anime faithfulness and creative freedom, this could be the first game in the series worth playing even for people who've already seen it all.
