Silent Hill: Townfall shows 50 minutes of gameplay at TGS 2026, days before launch

Konami dedicated one of the main stages at Tokyo Game Show 2026 entirely to Silent Hill: Townfall, and this was no two-minute trailer. Producer Motoi Okamoto took the stage on September 19 to lead a gameplay demonstration that ran past 50 minutes, showing fresh footage of the game just days before it launches on September 24 for PS5 and PC.

The game is being developed by Screen Burn Interactive, co-published with Annapurna Interactive, and set in Scotland in 1996. Protagonist Simon Ordell returns to the fictional island of St. Amelia to investigate his own connection to the place and its residents, all played entirely in first person. Longtime fans will recognize this return to psychological roots, without leaning into generic action, as exactly what the series' old guard has been asking for since the Silent Hill 2 days.

The mechanical highlight of the demo was the CRTV, a portable television that works as the core exploration tool. Players have to tune into unstable signals on the device to find hidden clues and even track enemy movement across the map, a clever way to turn a mundane object into a proper survival horror mechanic without leaning purely on scarce ammo.

Firearms exist, but Konami made it clear the game is built to reward players who avoid direct confrontation. Stealth matters just as much as melee or ranged attacks when an encounter is unavoidable, hinting at a tenser pace than the shooting-gallery rhythm a lot of the genre has drifted toward in recent years.

Showing nearly an hour of gameplay this close to launch is a rare show of confidence. Publishers usually save extended gameplay for reviews, or only do this once they're sure the final product holds up, so the timing itself says a lot about where the game is at.

Beyond the stage presentation, TGS also hosted an immersive theater experience built around Townfall for attendees, plus promotional items like a replica of Simon's wristband and exclusive shirts for deluxe edition pre-orders. That kind of activation only really makes sense when a publisher is chasing last-minute buzz right before release.
