Jagex confirmed on Tuesday the official 1.0 launch of RuneScape: Dragonwilds, ending the early access period the game had been running since its Steam debut. Version 1.0 arrives simultaneously on PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, marking the first time a RuneScape title has launched on consoles the same day as its PC release.
Dragonwilds is a survival and crafting spin-off set in the world of Gielinor, taking a very different approach from the classic MMORPG that spawned the franchise. Instead of the traditional massively multiplayer world, the game focuses on smaller cooperative sessions built around exploration, base-building and combat against mythological creatures drawn from RuneScape lore.
According to the developer, the title had already surpassed one million copies sold during its PC early access period, a performance the company cites as justification for investing in the console expansion. Launching on Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo platforms significantly widens the game's potential audience, which had until now relied almost exclusively on its PC player base.
The launch update also brings the Scorned Wilderness content, which concludes the narrative arc known as the Kuldra Saga with a confrontation against Kuldra, the God Eater. Alongside it comes content from the previously announced Umbral Sands expansion.
Another highlight of version 1.0 is crossplay support across all launch platforms. Players on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 will be able to group up and explore the world of Dragonwilds together regardless of which platform they're on — a feature increasingly common in cooperative survival games, but one that wasn't guaranteed for a RuneScape spin-off.
For Jagex, the console debut represents a bet on diversifying the RuneScape franchise beyond the original MMORPG and Old School RuneScape, aiming to attract an audience that may never have played the series' classic games but is drawn to the cooperative survival genre that has grown steadily in recent years.
