The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered lands on Nintendo Switch 2 today, September 29, over a decade after the original RPG first shipped from CD Projekt Red back in 2015. The release was confirmed during a recent Nintendo Direct and went live alongside the eShop launch.
Anyone who already owns the Complete Edition (base game plus the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions) on the original Switch gets the upgrade at no extra cost. Digital owners could already claim a free pre-order through the eShop in the days leading up to launch, while physical copy owners redeem theirs once the game goes live.
What stands out is how much the port actually leans on the new hardware instead of just running the old build faster. There is motion control for casting signs, firing the crossbow, throwing bombs and drinking potions, gyro aiming for combat, mouse support (an actual mouse, on a Nintendo console) and touchscreen input for the map, menus and even Gwent matches.
Under the hood the changelist is long too: better graphics and performance, reworked combat animations, a rebuilt skill and progression system from scratch, updated monster behavior, gear transmogrification and an expanded photo mode.
CD Projekt Red used the announcement to confirm Songs of the Past, a brand new paid expansion arriving in 2027 and already up for wishlisting, plus a crossover perk: buying the remaster through Battle.net unlocks Geralt as a cosmetic skin in Diablo 4.
For anyone who has already finished Wild Hunt two or three times, none of this changes the story: it is still the same Geralt hunting the same war across the same Northern Kingdoms. But if you only know the game by reputation or dropped it halfway through back in 2016, getting this version free and running well on a handheld removes basically every excuse left not to finish it.
