Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance reveals Teostra's return on the eve of TGS 2026

Capcom used the eve of Tokyo Game Show to drop the reveal Monster Hunter fans had been waiting on: Teostra is coming back in Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. The news broke during Tuesday's Capcom Spotlight, a broadcast running a bit over 40 minutes that aired hours before the show floor officially opens at Makuhari Messe in Japan.

The extended trailer shown at the event filled in more of the expansion's story. After the giant Lao Shan Lung attacks the Forbidden Lands, the expedition team builds a new outpost called Madoi, which becomes the jumping off point into the Skybound Eyrie, a region of floating islands and ruins hanging in the sky that houses most of the new content.

On the monster roster side, Capcom confirmed the bird wyvern Araketa, which controls air currents, and the elder dragon Gundoraja, tied to storm clouds, plus the return of Kushala Daora. And of course Teostra, one of the franchise's most recognizable elder dragons, gets a brand new fight set inside the Skybound Eyrie itself.

On the mechanics front, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Takuro Hiraoka broke down the Boost Bracer, a Slinger attachment that temporarily powers up all 14 weapon types and unlocks new attacks called Boost Drivers. For anyone who already knows Wilds' moveset inside out, it's essentially a new combo layer stacked on top of what's already there.

It's worth separating what's exclusive to Ascendance owners from what everyone gets for free. Capcom confirmed quality of life changes like swapping weapons without mounting the Seikret, changing gear outside the tent through the Item Box, and a clearer readout of monster hide toughness are all coming to the base game at no cost. Character Edit Vouchers are also going away: once the expansion launches, anyone will be able to re-edit their hunter's look for free, as many times as they want.

Honestly, those base game tweaks matter more in the short term than Teostra does. Anyone who dropped Wilds months ago because the endgame loop got stale isn't coming back just for a fire dragon, no matter how iconic it is; what actually moves the needle is less daily friction, like not having to hop on the Seikret every time you want to switch builds. The expansion itself is still slated for 2027 with no firm date or price, but Capcom is putting a playable demo on the TGS show floor starting Thursday the 17th for anyone in Chiba this week.
