Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 land natively on Switch 2, finally free of cloud streaming

Capcom put Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 up for native play on the Nintendo Switch 2 this Friday (16th), sold separately on the eShop. It's the first time all three remakes run directly on the console's own hardware: RE2 and RE3 previously existed on the original Switch only as cloud-streamed versions, the kind that need a solid connection and that anyone gaming on a train or with spotty wi-fi learns to hate. The RE4 remake, for its part, had never shown up on a Nintendo console at all.

Each game shipped in a different edition. Resident Evil 2 comes as the Deluxe Edition, with extra costumes for Leon and Claire, bonus weapons and the classic soundtrack swap. Resident Evil 3 launched with the base game only, missing the Resistance multiplayer mode that other platforms bundle. Resident Evil 4 arrived as the Gold Edition, packing in the Separate Ways chapter starring Ada Wong, The Mercenaries mode and the treasure map expansion.

There's a launch discount running through November 7: RE2 Deluxe is $29.99 (down from $39.99), RE3 is $19.79 (down from $29.99), and RE4 Gold is $39.99 (down from $49.99). Grabbing all three during the sale runs $89.77 against $119.97 at full price. Capcom hasn't announced any bundle, so going for the full trilogy means paying for each one on its own.

One detail that'll annoy anyone who already owned the cloud version on the original Switch: there's no save transfer and no loyalty discount for upgrading. You start from scratch, full price, no exceptions. Physical copies of all three are set for January 29, 2027, and Capcom still hasn't said whether those will be full game cards or the kind of Game-Key Card that only unlocks a download.

In practice this is a genuinely good deal if you picked up a Switch 2 recently and never played these remakes, since you can now carry console-quality fidelity in handheld mode without the lag and wi-fi dependency the cloud version always had. If you already cleared all three on PS5 or Xbox, there's zero reason to double-dip, but Capcom's timing here is smart: dropping three proven hits shortly after the Switch 2 launch is a cheap way to pad the console's library without building anything new.
