Rayman Legends Retold delayed to December despite already going gold

Ubisoft announced that Rayman Legends Retold will no longer arrive on October 1 as originally planned. The remake of the classic platformer now launches on December 3 for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC.

What actually stands out here isn't the delay itself — that's routine in the industry — but the timing. The studio confirmed the game had already gone gold, meaning the final build was locked and ready for manufacturing and certification. Delaying past that point is unusual, since it typically means shelving a process that was already wrapped up.

In its statement, the team said only that "the game has officially gone gold, but we've decided to take extra time to make sure every detail gets the care it deserves." No specific technical issue, critical bug, or scheduling conflict with another release was mentioned — just the generic polish justification.

In practice, a two-month delay on a finished game usually serves a different purpose: buying more marketing runway and dodging direct competition with October/November's heavy hitters. Slotting a family-friendly platformer into a quieter month like December tends to be a smarter play than risking getting buried under AAA releases.

For anyone who already had this circled on the calendar, there is a silver lining: a Game Overview trailer drops on September 22, alongside first impressions from content creators and press who have already gotten hands-on time with the build.

Worth noting: pre-ordering any edition still locks in the Hoodlum Havoc Pack, with Rayman 3-inspired costumes for Rayman and Globox, and the base package still bundles Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition. Anyone counting on the remake for October just has to wait a little longer — which, honestly, beats the alternative of getting a rushed game.
